Questions about Freestyle and Private Lessons

Many people have asked what is freestyle, how do I get more practice time, and where can I go from here? Here are a few of these questions answered. We hope this provides some additional information to help you or your child grow as a skater.

What is a Freestyle Session?

Freestyle sessions are different than public skating sessions as they are for practicing skating skills. Usually, these sessions cost more than a public session and skaters must be in a figure/hockey skating program.

Freestyle sessions are designed for skaters of all ages and abilities to work on individual skills, advanced skating skills, choreography, and jump and spin technique. Skaters can also get private lessons from a coach of their choice on these sessions.

This is a great opportunity to practice what you have learned during learn to skate and grow as a skater. This ice time is also used to practice your individual or small group routines for shows or exhibitions held by the figure skating program.

Individuals with a private hockey lesson must be accompanied by a hockey coach during freestyle sessions.

Freestyle session fees:

$25 for the whole session

$120 a month, having access to all freestyle sessions.

How do I get a private lesson?

To start private lessons, contact a coach. If you do not know the available coaches, please refer to our instructors page on our website (www.fscoflouisiana.com). The coach will provide their availability and how much they charge for lessons. Each coach’s rates depend on their level of certifications along with years of experience.

Some coaches are better with younger/lower level skaters, while other coaches only teach skaters above a certain level.

A coach will allow you to do the following:

  1. Move faster through the skating levels,

  2. Participate in skating shows/exhibitions with solo or small group routines,

  3. Complete tests for Freestyle 1 (ISI) or Pre-Preliminary (USFS) and higher,

  4. Attend competitions held ISI or USFS (recognized figure skating associations).

All lessons take place on our Freestyle sessions.
